ecu unlocking problems

  1. #1
    Hi guys
Just wanted your advice really, Iv recently had my ecu unlocked for my 99 vtr to bypass the immobiliser, when I bought the car I was told it would not start because the immobiliser was disconnected for so long it had reset it self. We fitted the ecu and it is still not working.

Has anyone got any ideas? The ignition light comes on but the engine doesn't turn over
    Cheers andrewz

Does it fire and/or crank over? Still got the imob disconnected?

No engine is not turning over just the ignition lights come on and that's it, not sure if the keypad is still plugged in or not, I'll check when I get home, would that effect it?
    Thanks andrewz

But does it crank over? Are you getting a spark?

If it dosent crank over then you have another problem somewhere.

No the engine is not cranking and I don't believe its sparking, but I'll check tonight, so it must be a ecu problem I'm guessing? Has anyone else ever had there ecu unlocked and had the same problem?
    Kind regards

Wether the ECU is locked or unlocked the engine will still crank over.

Just the coilpack and the injectors wont be functioning.

If it isnt cranking over then id check connections on your starter motor, also check the earths, and check the circuit between the alternator, starter motor and the battery

Bit of an odd one if it was running then stopped running but still cranks over. Could check the connections to the coilpack. Or while you aint losing time, just unplug the battery overnight so the ECU clears any errors. See if the injectors are injecting any fuel, if they aint then id suspect the ECU has locked, bit random to say its already run though. Also check the fuel cut off switch in the top right of the engine bay, mine was released the other day which was the reason mine wasnt running, and i wasnt getting a spark either. When i pressed it i got fuel and a spark, not sure if it was a coincedence or it does prevent a spark aswell.

Right, been in touch with the mechanic today, its definitely not cranking over and there's no spark on the plugs. He seems to think if we replace the keypad with a decent one (as the old one was damaged) it should work, but
I'm under the impression that the ecu should work with out the keypad. So my conclusion is that the ecu is knackered...

Any ideas are appreciated.. Cheers guys

The car will still crank over with a locked ECU.

if the ecu was nackered the car would still crank over. its something to do with the wiring to the starter or an earth. even if the keypad was broken it would still try and fire up/ crank over

this sounds like the problem i had about a month ago turn the key all ignition lights come on but nothing found out that there,s a relay under the ecu that the connections fuse try taking it out and give it a few taps or give it a tap while someone try,s turnning it over and if it starts its your relay

if you know you have no spark then I assume the engine is turning over as if trying to start if this is the case then the car is still immobilsed and locked
with the non keypad their is a black box that needs to be removed its located behind the fuse box but i cant tell you how the keypad one works but it definately sounds to me like the ecu/immobiliser is till operating
