Got a Rattling... and a Clunk ( sorta)

  1. #1
I have noticed when turning left slowly round thecorner on my road (and others of course) i get a knocking/rattling from front of my car, Sounds like drivers side shafts going, Correct ?

Im assuming its my shafts but ive noticed the rubber ball on my drop link is slightly perished at the top but doesnt appear to have movement... Would you say its this and my shafts combined, Or probably just my shaft worn on their own ? Cheers.

Oh yeah and occasionally i get a clunk on full lock.

thanks for the help people ..................34 looks and no one has any input lol ? cant one of you at least confirm that it could be my shafts or droplinks.

Sounds like driveshafts to me. Might be best having someone in the know check it out for you to confirm.

my old c2 done this but theres nothing wrong with how it drove or anything mechanical, but not sure if its the same on saxos. when you fully lock the wheel and move does it sounds like a ticking noise?

itl be the driveshaft mines been doin it a while now only on left turns it was knockin but seems to have stopped. might aswel get new drop link ball joint arm thing cheap enough.thats my next replacement plus suspension arms.

If its happening when turning the wheel then might be your cv joint have a look for any splits in the boot.

    Sounds like a CV joint.

Easy way to check, put the car in gear, jack it up and rock the wheels forwards and back. You should feel the play in the shaft and a clunk as it takes up the slack.

The drop link will clunk when you hit an even bump or undulation in the road, the driveshaft will clunk when turning, the clunk speed increasing with road speed.
