lower rad hose

  1. #1
Hiii fitted a vts fan and lower rad hose on my vtr, but the lower hose is really tight so where it bends up towards the water pump its basicly touching the alternator belt. Which could cause the belt to wear through the hose and make a hole if it gets closer.

Is it ment to be like that or something not right?
I'll try and get a picture later

    Doesn't sound about right.

You located it in the clips for it and and 10mm thread and nut?

As ross said should have locating clips that it slots into running under the chassis

failing that, could be the wrong lower hose? they did make slightly different lengths

Yeh its in the clips but still touching the belt. Guessing I need a different hose then?

It does sit fairly close to the alt belt, but as above, it needs to be in the locating clips otherwise it will rub through.

Learned the hard way when I had to change that lower hose on my VTR with the engine in. FML.

What size radiator you got fitted?

There's two lengths of hose IIRC. Slightly longer one for the 'half size' radiator you get on the 1.1 etc, shorter one for the 'full size' VTR/ VTS jobbie.

'full size' vts one with a vts lower hose so should work really. Might try using the vtr/westie hose as thats longer.

Do you not find it a fairly difficult job changing the hose on the back of the engine with the engine still in the car? Ive had to replace the plastic pipe on the back 3 times and had to basically take the engine out every time.

Hardest bit for me was reaching up with the mole grips to get those bloody clips on and off. Citroen gave me the lower hose for a 1.1 too, so had to cut it to size and expand the end in boiling water to get it onto the radiator.

Give the longer hose a try nicole.

Yeh I'll try the longer hose, more work for ben
And Kyrs the engine was out the car when we fitted the hose so much easier.

^^ Spelling error! , My pal never put the hose over the plastic pipe far enough and now it leaks.. alot, so i am going to have to try and pull it up over while the engines in
