my car seemed to be losing loads ov oil so had a little look and found the problem but the pipe thats came off doesnt stay in when you push it back in. whats meant to hold it in??
its the pipe below the one that goes to the rocker cover pipe (below the one with nothing attached to
    it, in the pic)

i used sealent on my for rocker cover gaskets, i thought mine was the headgasket that went so got everything changed to fit it was leaking out of there and running on the outer edge of the headgasket.

The metal pipe insert is tapered and its suppose to hold its self in but they wear and as the rocker covers heat up and expand, these dont.......Another bright idea brought to your by the Peugeot/citroen group

what sort of sealant should i use to keep this in??

I used some instant gasket on mine which has minimised the minor leaking I had, but i still get a few drops every now and then.

Do it with the engine cold - pull the metal elbow out, apply some instant gasket/ silicone to the barb, but not the very end as you don't want the stuff going into the head. Tap it back into the head with a hammer and leave it to set.

    instant gasket or ptfe tape...

take it out, clean out the hole and barbed section of pipe with petrol, apply a bead of bonding sealer (not gasket sealer) to the pipe, re-fit and leave it for a couple of hours. Bonding sealer is designed to bond parts together and works a treat on these
