Hi there well ive got a 99 vtr with completetly standard engine just lately it has been struggling to start up, sometimes it starts fine then other times it dont just have to try a couple of times then it starts. also sometimes when im sitting still it idles at about 1000 then on its own revs up to 2000 then drops back to one 1000 it does this wether its hot or cold. ive taken my icv of and cleaned it up but it didnt change it. i was goin to change the coolant temp sensor on the side of the block (the green plug) but not sure if that would stop it from starting properly any ideas? thanks

#2This is exactly the same as what is happening with mine other than the fact that it only seems to occur when the engine is cold (mine too is a 1999 VTR). I totally removed the inlet manifold and throttle body and thoroughly cleaned the whole lot (including the ICV), but it hasn't cured the idling problem. Admittedly it doesn't do it as much, but I'll be watching this thread closely, lolQuote:Hi there well ive got a 99 vtr with completetly standard engine just lately it has been struggling to start up, sometimes it starts fine then other times it dont just have to try a couple of times then it starts. also sometimes when im sitting still it idles at about 1000 then on its own revs up to 2000 then drops back to one 1000 it does this wether its hot or cold. ive taken my icv of and cleaned it up but it didnt change it. i was goin to change the coolant temp sensor on the side of the block (the green plug) but not sure if that would stop it from starting properly any ideas? thanks

#3coil pack or lambda sensor? have you tryed these? if you have a mate or know someone with the same car like a mk1 vtr try swapping the parts over and see if this changes anything.

#4Bleeding the coolant system often solves the lumpy idle problem

#5could be getting air in where the inlet manifold is conected to head this makes it rev up and down as i found out when i changed mine i jus got a new gasket just 4 little green circles sorted it right out or could be your idle control valve on top left of the inlet manifold
