Jerky Clutch

  1. #1
Hi, long time lurker, first time poster.

I've just bought a Saxo 1.1 x from a family member but it has a problem with the clutch, I've tried a search but can't find anything.

Basically, just as i get to the bite, the pedal jerks. The rest of the clutch action is smooth apart from where the bite is and it's quite frustrating as i'm not used to driving it.

    Any ideas? Thanks

does it make your car judder? and in all gears?
  3. #3
Only pulling away in first or reverse. No real judder, there's just a very fine line between wheelspinning or stalling.

sounds like typical clutch judder, mine has it, but can be more severe in some cases than others, its because the clutch is either unevenly worn or just cheap and warped slightly, i fitted a transmech clutch to mine when fitting a gearbox , unfortunatly my second box has gone and im fitting my 3rd next week, exedy clutch this time ftw

I would imagine the thrust bering is catching on the input shaft as you release the clutch then jumping a bit hence the sudden engagement.
Mine started like that and now the release bearing is being eaten away by the diaphraghm, I need to change the clutch but keep adjusting the cable a bit more for now until I get paid and have time to get it done.

However it might be as simple as a dry and worn clutch cable - fingers crossed it is mate. New cables are quite cheap and easy to fit

I have this two.. often when reversing it is vary easy to stall too.

Gear changes always seem quite jerky especially when I really try hard to get them as smooth as I can.

How much is it for a new clutch?
  9. #9
    roughly 80-90 pounds on trade....

adjust the clutch cable first if the bite is very low / high...

where the bite is, is sound. just feels jerky in 1st and 2nd. having a service in a week, so might get them to look at it.

Is the typical vtr clutch moement >> light for first half inch of movement, then some pressure to engage for say half of movement of pedal, then easier after that (i dont mean excessive force, just noticable difference). not driven daughters car yet but that's how it feels to press it
