What tyres to choose?

  1. #1
Unfortunatley im going to be moving away to university in september but i at least get to use the car until november because im insured until then .
Anyway i need two new tyres for MOT ive got toyo proxies on there at the moment and i effing love them. But i dont want to spend like 50pound a corner to get these tyres as im not using the car for too long now, so any suggestions on something with the same level of performance for a slightly lower price?

    Thanks

Hmmm ive just realised i have yokohama s drives on the back maybe just put them on the front cause theyve got amazing levels of grip... and then maybe get some budget tyres for the rear? will that affect handling much?

A pictures tells a thousand words...

The result of Eagle F1's up front and Kumho out back, in the rain.

Tyres are the only thing that keeps you in contact with the road. Have you fitted better sus/lowering? Don't do it on the cheap. Or, if you must, put the good tyres on the back..

Eagle F1's imo are really bad tyres, the compound just seems to hard and hardly any grip. The tread pattern looks as if it would perform well but it makes no difference at all, bad tyre with a bad price !

    Are you on drugs?????

The GSD2's were good, the GSD3's are amazing. The T1R's I had fell apart after one track session and Potenzas wear stupidly quickly and tramline loads, not to metion being noisy.

T1rs are brilliant in the dry, in the wet you need to warm them up a little to work well, otherwise they are worth the money! My car used to understeer allot without th but once on, could boat round corners, (not on a saxo btw)

Btw, look on my profile, look at recent threads and click the link on the thread I started in this section, T1R's for like 28£

I know it's been said already, but whatever you do, don't fit good tyres on the front and budget's on the rear.

You always want your best tyres on the rear.

I learnt this the hard way

    hardly any grip????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as far as an all round road tyre goes, the gsd3 eagle f1 is the best to get imo. just a shame they are fairly hard to get hold of now.

i've not had a road tyre that offers close to the levels of grip to the eagle f1 on my car and being a turbocharged fwd, grip is always an issue.

my friend has a 760bhp r32 gtr skyline and uses eagle f1's all round, as does a bloke i know with a mk4 golf r32, a bloke with a seat lean cupra r and a close friend of mine with a nova with a c20xe on twin 45's.

all powerful cars using 1 particular type of tyre, doesn't suggest to me they are bad tyres!

i always look what tyres big-powered cars are running at car shows (sad i know) just to compare to see what people like on their cars. proxes and eagle f1's seem to be the all rounder choice of tyres and the track day tyres such as a048's and 888's for the cars that get used not very often.

proxes offer decent grip but fall apart after 5 minutes of hard driving making eagle f1's my favoured choice.
