strange knocking noise : problem solved

  1. #1
coming from the front drivers side,

it has a new wishbone, driveshaft, track rod, shocks , springs in last 6 months, all in perfect condition

doesn't knock when turning or anything just when going over bumps in the road, very confused
  2. #2
Have you check the exhaust isn't catching on anything? Or the heatshields?
  3. #3
yeah got a full super sprint and never had any issues with it before
  4. #4
    loose arch lining maybe?
  5. #5
just stuck it all back together and it sounds awful definitely metal on metal
  6. #6
Check your wheel bolts are all tight...
  7. #7
wheels bolts are all tightened on a breaker bar so nice and tight

I really don't know then, have you tried bouncing the front of the car when stationary to listen for it?

have you got spax psx dampers at the front could be them gone mine went just after 600 miles and started to knock
  13. #13
i have spax psx yes lol about 1000 miles old
  14. #14
me n my dad just went and bounced each side and the drivers shock feels like its knocking and could feel the top of it moving

think its time for new shocks after 2 months

    new strut or top mount?
  16. #16
i got the same problem mate
  17. #17
could also be coming from cv joints maybe... that was my problem had them both replaced
  18. #18
If you're saying only when going over bumps, and I see you havn't mentioned them, maybe droplinks? I had this exact problem and found the bolt that connects the droplink to the strut wasnt tight and consequently made a noise exactly how you described. Or it could be the balljoints in the droplinks themselves.

problem solved now, i stripped down the strut and found the shock collar was loose so i tightened it up in a vice with some thread lock so hopefully that will solve the problem now
