3 stud to 4 stud hub conversion

  1. #1
I have used the search button but couldn't really find what i was looking for.

Basically i have a 1997 1.1 saxo with 3 stud wheels and i want to stick some VTR wheels on it so need to do a 4 stud conversion.

Am i right in thinking that i just buy some MK2 1.1 saxo front hubs (maybe even the leg?) and some rear drums off MK2 saxo??

    Are they a straight fit?

    cheers

    i need the whole axle!??!

i thought i could just whip the drums over??

what a kick in the teeth after i've just spent £50 on brake shoes and adjusters (some tosser welded mine together because they'd stripped)

If the hub dosn't come off on the front then how do you go about fitting a aftermarket shock???

No. 4 stud drums are bigger, your 3 stud shoes won't reach them = no rear brakes. I think I'm right in saying you can swap the backplates and all the arrangements over but you'd need new plates, shoes, springs and cylinders and for the hassle, a whole beam is 4 bolts.

The shocks are inserts into the cast legs.

sounds like an effort... which is exacly why i stuck with my 3 stud hubs... just have a good look round for nice 3studded alloys i dont like vtr/s alloys anyway imo

    rear beam = £30 - 40 from a scrappy = no hassel its 4 bolts

the front .. you cant just bolt new hubs to the leg it doesnt work like that sadly ...
youl have to buy 2 new legs off another saxo.. pritty sure it doesnt matter which mk it is .. but dont hold me to it .. and they will cost £20 each most

Need one with tapered hubs if you want to use your old driveshafts.

Dunno what mk saxo this will be probably mk2, all i know is post-1999 GTi's had the tapered ones.

a 1997 will be a mk1, no mk2's were 3 stud and all mk1's had flat ended shafts

    Hmm...

You sure that includes the 3 stud models? All I know is my 3 studder had tapered shafts as have all the other 3 stud cars I've worked on, albeit 106's.

    Bloody citroens.

    EDIT: To quote AXOC
