New Speakers Sound Crap

  1. #1
Today I replaced the front standard speakers with JBL 582's, and when I finished putting them in and powered on the head unit, to my suprise it sounded wank, the bass is worse than what i had with standards.

Anyone know what I might of done wrong? I know they were only £32, but they are JBL and anything should be an improvement in quality over standard right?

I soldered the original speaker wires onto the new speakers terminals' everything looks fine, ive got bass maxed out on the headunit too, when I fade to the rear speakers which are standard you can hear the bass is alot better.

    any tips?
    cheers

Ask a MOD to move your question to the ICE you`ll get more response.

All I can think of is like Matty said about having the wiring round the wrong way thus making them out of phase and having destructive interference, resulting in the apparent lack of bass.

if they are brand new speakers you cant just crank it up and expect awsome sound as with all new audio it needs time to bed in. turn the bass down aswell to maybe 3 or 4 more than standard.

Is that actually true? I've heard this a number of times, usually followed by a big forum argument over at DIYMA. Do you really need to 'break in' a speaker?
