CV Boot Rubber split
would this make a grinding noise yes or no

You may find a lack of grease in the boot/joint which has split which may be causeing the grinding noise.
Replace the boot asap or the likelyhood is you will require a new driveshaft too.

As the man above said,buy a CV boot kit off ebay or similar.

May aswell get a new driveshaft it wont take long for it to be knackered anyway, my boot came off and was only like that about a day, chances are the damage is already done especially if any dirt gets in
