Important! : 2nd MOT failure....

  1. #1
    Right guys Im desperate now,

The VTR failed on emissions again..

Theyre better but still not great.

I checked the o2 sensor and its sooty meaning its running way too rich.

Please, any help? things to check?

heres a list of things Ive done to the engine/exhaust:
    New head gasket,
    new head bolts,
    new inlet mani. seals,
    new Cat,
    new exhaust mani gasket,
    new air filter,
    new fuel filter,
    new valve cover gasket,
    new cam belt,
    new drive belt,
    new oil and filter,
    cleaned the throttle body,
    cleaned lambda sensor,
    new thermostat,
    sealed thermostat,
    new anti freeze,
    new rad,
new mani to down pipe gasket

The engine sounds like shit, would this be due to putting the timing belt on a notch less or more than it should.

Also its a standard exhaust but coming from high revs its pops every now and then.

Someone said to me about a vaccum hose? i know theres one to the inlet manifold but im pretty sure its clear.

    Please guys im desperate.

    Cheers for any help

try a new o2 sensor, cleaning them rarely works, in fact disturbing them out of the pipe often buggers them up. Also if the timings out on the cam you really are on a hiding to nowhere, at very least you'll get poor running and performance, at worst all your problems will be over when the valves meet the pistons. Get the basics right before you try getting all technical

well it runs. its not knocking etc so im guessing the timing is ok cos it still goes like shit off a shovel...

the bloke at the garage said he didnt think a new 02 sensor would make a difference but i thought it was that sensor the MAP and MAF sensor that determined the Air/fuel mixture.
obviously with air temp as well.

forgot to say emissions were higher at natural idle than on higher revs

well an o2 sensor is the first thing we try on all emission related problems on a saxo, and for the bloke at the garage to say it wouldn't make any difference is crap lol thats what the sensor is there for, get it on a basic snap-on scanner, they pick up fault codes on saxos right back to 1996my and will tell you if the o2 sensor or indeed any other sensor is faulty.

THANK YOU!! i thought it didnt sound right,
do you have a snap on reader?
    or sealy live?

    i fucking love you lol

youve cheered me up a lil

use the snap on one a hell of a lot, saves swapping components at random lol. just going on recent hassles i have had getting a few saxos through emissions tests and each time its been the o2 sensor and the % it knocks the readings down by is unreal, hope you get it sorted mate!

    cheers,

    GSF monday!

universal ones are ok as long as the wire are the same yup??

would valve clearnaces make a massive difference?
