Bolt for TRS tow strap...

  1. #1
Anyone know the thread size and pitch for the VT* towing eye?

And what grade of steel I'll need (2 ton breaking strain to be safe?)

Can measure the length needed but not got any thread gauges

    M12 x1.5 iirc

    you want 12.9 tensile.

On another note (sorry to hi-jack) is it possible to get the car itself retapped? As my friends towing eye does not screw in so i'm reckoning the thread's knackered. (Towing eye itself is brand new)

Chip, thats quite common, i ran an m12 tap through my tow point using a very special combination of extension bars/ sockets. Otherwise would be a bumper off job

Yep will be a 12.9 grade.
Who ever said use a2 needs shooting.
A2 stainless steel is about as strong as a piece of fudge thats being left in the sun all day!

How long does it need to be?

Not sure is the hole goes right through the chassis leg or whether it's only tapped to a certain depth?

You would need to measure the standerd one.
Then add a length to make it stick out further, the problem you have though is getting a loop on the end of it.

M12 bolt and washer to sit behind it works wonders, it worked for me fine and ive tested it before to see what the tension on the strap was like.
