Important! : Big Problem! Nasty noises and Lack of power!

Hi guys, I'm a noob to this site and havent really posted anything before on here so I do apologize for any stupidness.

I have a 2001 Saxo Vtr, currently got aound 83K on the clock. I use it to go to work most days but it really needs some TLC and a big service.

I noticed the other day a noise started, the best way to describe it is like a whining, grinding, knocking noise. However this has got louder and worse over the past few days. When I accelerate in gear it goes to a higher pitch, when revs dropping down it goes to a lower pitch, however when I take it out of gear and rev it in neutral the noise goes away, when I put it back in gear it starts again. Gearbox do you reckon?

    Another Problem:
When accelerating some days the power would stutter around 3000-3500rpm'ish. So I thought this could be the spark plugs so I bought some super 4's and got a local garage to install them as I had no clue. All seemed fine until it started again, then the engine light came on
The next day it went off, then it came on later in the day and started stuttering again. At the moment its not really stuttering but it just seems to have lack of power. I was thinking coilpack maybe?

Or is it or linked together?
    Cheers for you time

Sounds like a bearing in your gearbox for the wining, mine does this but only in first, it'll get really bad the longer you leave it.

For the power issue, if you've changed the plugs it can't be that, is your air filter clean? Is it leaking? Check Coil connections.

It may be your Fuel Filter is blocked, Change that... In fact I'd give your car a full Service if I was you.

sounds like you and i have exactly the same probs...

If it went away when you got the super 4s fitted could be ya coil pack or a lose connection

sounds like coilpack. mine does the same :-/

as for the noises, sounds like the box is knackered

Cheers for your input guys, I appreciate it.
I've seen that the cost of gearbox bearings are around £70 on eBay.
Just wondering how much would it be for the labour of fitting the gearbox bearings if this was the problem?

Right, Sorry I haven't replied for a while i've just got back from holiday.
I left my car with a mechanic and he's said that the one of the main bearings in the gearbox has gone, so really I need a gearbox

I said before taking it in that if its going to cost alot I might aswel go for a vts full engine conversion with a vts box on.

I've been looking on eBay and it seems they have lack of full conversions and im getting abit confused about what ECU I need and if I need it unlocked?

If anyone is selling a vts engine with box, loom etc. Please let me know.

    My car:
Saxo VTR mk 2 (Y reg 2001) 3 plug ECU.

    Thanks, Luke

Yes you'll need an Unlocked ECU or an aftermarket one.

    Ok cheers mate.
I've been quoted for the gearbox to be done at around £350 including fitting, but they could find other problems apparently

I think I might just settle for a 2nd hand (vtr) one off ebay to be honest.
