dials gone dead and abs light come on!

as above, misses was driving the car at the time. i wasnt in it. she said the speedo, rev and fuel gauge went dead. the abs light came on so she pulled in. turned the car off and on again. now everything is working again. the clock "time" has not been reset so its not a battery fault.

    any ideas?

Mine does this on rare occasions. Never really bothered me. Just takes a few seconds and it comes back on.

May be the two connectors behind the dials, sometimes the solder breakes, wich causes bad malfuncion, and in this case, the dials turn dead while the solder is not making contact.

Normally, that is caused by the black connector, if its the digital dials 2000>

the abs light came on tho?

just removed the 5amp fuse for the dials, car will not turn over, refit fuse car will turn and fire up. with the engine running i remove the 5amp dial fuse, the dials die but the engine runs. dont think its a fuse problem.

but why the abs light? this didnt go out till the car was turned off.

the abs fuses in the engine bay are good, the abs control unit is pluged in properly...

About the abs i dont know.. but about the dials.. try shaking them to see if they go of or not, only go off while running?

    what was the fault?

PM'd you - the alternator had gotten wet when drove through a large puddle/flood. Cured by replacing the alternator.
