Bent Rear wheel?....

  1. #1
    Car info:
    Saxo VTR MK II 2002

had the car 6months now and never really bothered about a slight squeek frm the back which i noticed a few months after owning the car.

when looking from the back of the car you can clearly see that the rear right wheel is leaning outwards (bottom wheel leaning out right) and another give way that somethings not right is that the gap from the tyre to the wheel arch on all wheels are the same apart from the rear right its got half the gap compared to the rest.

when driving with no music + window down every now and then on some bumps and bits you can hear a tinny metal sound and a high pitch squeek (the squeek also happens when braking lightly not medium/hard)

any theories on what this could be would be great! as i'd like to sort this myself to be honest.

my first theory was the shock absorber had gone until i saw the wheel was bent.. so im now lost.

    thanks guys.

    Picture shortly.

sounds like your rear beam is $$%^ ^%^ %^ mate ?
the tinny noise - (does it sound like milk bottles banging against eachother) ?
if not then the back wheel might have been in a knock and bent pulling something out of place to make the noise

seems to be a fair bit on camber there pal (although they do camber aslight any way) but might be reason for the tappy noise)
mine did that and i didnt think anything of it- then noticed a noise and kept getting worse- then eventually then bearings snapped on rear beam and my car camered that much on the right side wheel it rubbed on the inner arch, had to replace the beam

The tinny noise i cant really explain, when i take it out tomorrow ill repost after work and give a good explanation tomorrow night + doesnt always happen its a mind of its own. on the road its fine at one point then on the slightest change in road surface it can happen..

would you rekon taking the wheel off and comparing the other rear side with both wheels off?

the only thing i havent done is take it off thinking about it ha.. jacked up and checked underneath etc. all fine.

    Thanks for reply mate!

tbh it sounds like your bearings are collapsing on the right hand side on the beam, and its not a nice job to fix. for me it wasnt anyway lol- if i was you speak to IM Axles on here and he could give you a more definate answer on what he reckons it will be, he supplied and replaced my rear beam for me and would definetly recommend if needs be?

but saying all this there could be nothing wrong with it and could be something simple like your exhaust knocking mate

    thanks man,

if theres no easy way for me to tell for sure what it is from a quick whip off the wheel and a look then ill stick it in my local garage in the next week for a look then if they say it is that then ill be back on here and pm you if you dont mind and go from there i guess.

    thanks for the help too!

Found the issue... finally bothered now im getting round to modding and changing my car (:

The rear arm bushes have gone, well one of them.
I know they have to be heated to expand then like £20-30 for a bit to replace but how much on labour to do that do you rekon guys?

they don't have to be heated to fit, and chances are when the trailing arm is removed to change the bearings you'll find the stub pin the bearing runs on is pitted and worn, which means its time for a new beam anyway

    Whats worth doing then?

My friend at the garage will give it a go and change them or I can get a rear beam with Discs for £120 slightly clean and up to MOT standards. (is that a good price?)

also is it an easy job to fit the beam or a pain?

Not a bad price tbh mate, and if it will get you through the MOT then get it

Not to bad to fit, basically 4bolts and brake lines

Sorry mate but i`ve got no experience of fitting rear beams, except don`t overtighten the bleed nipples on the brakes as they can break/round off.

    Steve.
Couldn't find access to a ramp anytime soon so my beams on its way down tomorrow and the cars taking a trip to the mechanic, Any idea what it will cost as it seems a fairly simple job to swap Beams? (if you know what to do ofcourse)

The beam i got comes with 2 month mechanical warrenty, Beam, Arms, Disc brakes all included so its a straight swap im guessing?

I got a quote at £120 + VAT ? to change the beam and do the brake fluids is that dear or ???

maybe ask for an on the side job at £120 cash?
