Ditch or fix?

My Saxo's been on the way out for a while now, I didn't expect it to still be running by now. It's an X reg and nearly 110k miles.

I've been saving up for something newer, but I've not really seen anything I fancy and I keep thinking "maybe I should get another Saxo, just a newer one that works better" so I'd be grateful of some opinions on whether I should try to repair the one I have or if I should get rid.

    Problems:

    * Knocking/grinding/juddering when braking at the front. Just had new discs, pads and a cylinder. Front bearings have been replaced twice in the last 6 months as have various bits of the suspension. Driveshafts were replaced about 12 months ago but have some play in them. I think the driveshafts need replacing again, plus possibly some other bits on the front.
    * Engine cuts out when slowing down sometimes. When in neutral sometimes the car revs to 2000 rpm, sometimes it revs up then down then up then down etc. Intermittent fault - think it's a sensor of the ECU.
    * Front tyres need replacing.
    * Sounds like the exhaust needs a repair.
    * Handbrake isn't much use on hills even though it was repaired about 6 months ago.

It's not stuff I can fix myself and if I manage to find a decent garage who do a proper job there's no guarantee it won't go to pot again in 6 months time.

Is it worth spending the cash on repairing it?

    Thanks in advance

It will be quite a few bob to fix...
Depends if you really like the car...or if it is just another car?
If you like it get it fixed..
If you don't mind getting a new one get a new one! Personally i would get a new one.
Could just be problem and problem after them repairs..

It does what I want pretty well, but it is just a car.

If you're 'upgrading' though, you don't want a car that's slower, less economical, has less space in the boot etc. which is the problem I'm having. Buying a working 03 Saxo is one solution

    1) Sounds to me like you had the wrong driveshaft fitted. Which is why you have gone through so many bearing.

    2) Could be a number of things, possibly ICV.

    3) Buy new tyres.....?

    4) Cover the tail pipe with a rag and see if you can feel/hear it blowing from somewhere. Take it somewhere to get repaired.

    5) Try adjusting mechanism. New cables. New shoes/pads. Calipers or drums on the back?

Not a ridiculous list to be honest.

get it fixed, all are pretty run of the mill consumable items on saxos to be fair
