Oil round spark plugs

  1. #1
    Hi Guys,

Just changed the spark plugs on my VTS, when I took the coil pack off there was a bit of oil in and around the spark plug chambers , i changed the plugs cleaning away the oil before putting the new ones. Now the VTS starts fine but there is a bit of white smoke comming out of the exaust.

Im guessing the white smoke would be the oil that I couldnt clean up burning off but would like to know what has/is causing the oil leak.

I'll check the plugs again in a few days but would like a heads up on what to look for if the oil returns.

    Thanks

    white smoke isn't oil

oil on plugs is probably from cam covers leaking and the oil seaping/dripping down

ok after a quick google found th smoke could be caused from a couple of things...... one of them is head gone ..... i'll be getting that looked at asap, although the oil cap has no bownish gunk on it.

The cam covers, I can just take them off, clean up, apply new sealent and put them back on cant I?

to be 100% correct the cam covers need replacing as the gasket is integral with them but sealant should work. Is the white smoke there all the time or just when the engine is cold?

you get oil around the plugs from the cam cover leaking of people spilling when topping up the oil.

as for the white smoke i wouldnt worry, keep you eye on it, and make sure it doesnt get to heavy, also check that ur not using water and theres no brown thick stuff floating on top, also check the cap for white mayo like gunk on there.

unless you get the above, it should be ok

    Tanks guys for the replies

Thecam covers i'll look at geeting some new sealent on there then, and if the oil still leaks then look at getting them replaced.

The white smoke i seam to only get on cold starts. I just took her out for a spin and my findings are: start up engine - no smoke, first few mins of driving - some white smoke, rest of the jurney - no smoke. I parked up somewhere for 5 mins then headed back home and there was no smoke. I'll keep an eye on it but as you guys said i wont worry about it.

    Thanks

The white smoke during the first few minutes is just condensation being burnt off. The only time you have to worry is if white smoke is there all the time during driving I believe.
