As per title really
Can B8's take 21mm Torsion bar?

#1

#2id say yes but not a perfect match
-
#3They'd be on the very limit with 21's, worth waiting for a second hand set of group N's IMO, turn up at a good price on here

Matt has some rear ones for sale iirc?

#4Well Bilstein GrpN dampers are only designed to work with up 21mm bars before needing revalved or different dampers.
They can take them but as above theyre not going to work together very well.
Itll be like having Spax Dampers with 325lb springs. -
#6saxo_ron used 21mm bars with B8s. Don't think he had any complaints.
-
#7Why not get the gaz shocks? They are 90quid plus post think it's 5quid, thats from a shop on eBay
I am running the gaz shocks with 21mm bars and they are fine, can't remember where I've got mine set at but there's still shit loads of adjustability left, the guy at gaz said they can cope up to like 26mm bars or maybe more, can't remember exactly lol -
#8Sell torsion bars to me.
-
#10They should be fine Paul.
Bilstein and other dampers wont just work for one specific set of bars as that would be pointless.
If you take for example the Billie group N front dampers (for example) people use them quite happily from anything from the 155lb faulkner springs right up to 100+lb more without any issues atall.
Why should the rear be any different when in lb terms that range is very similar to the suggested difference in lb between the 'guide' rates for 21-23mm bars
Front LB to Rear Torsion Bars
180-225lb = 21mm Torsion Bars
225-275lb = 22mm Torsion Bars
275-325lb = 23mm Torsion Bars
To be fair though noone has done sufficient testing on the rear with a good number or different dampers and torsion bars to be able to give a definate yes or no answer. So much of the response will be speculation with results being perhaps personal preference based on certain knowledge
To get the most accurate answer your best bet would be to call bilstein and ask what rates theyve been tested to, only they will know the best performance range for their dampers. But then if torsion bar lb rates are still all 'guide' rates theres not even any 100% proof there.
There are still alot of people out there using very good spec rear dampers with standard torsion bars too yet theres rarely any consideration to potential over damping. -
#11put them on and go drive the thing! if its bouncing around then its under dampened.
if your half a decent driver you should be able to tell soon enough mate.
