timing problem

    can anyone tell me how to do the timing on my 2002 saxo vtr my freind changed the head gasket for me and the car ran fine for a few mins then cut out he decided that the timing was out so he changed the belt and now the car wont start would appreciate any reply be dumbed down for me im no mechanic but desperately need to get it on the road cheers.

    there should be be a hole in the camshaft pulley which you can time up by rotating the cam so that it lines up with a hole in the head then make sure the no1 piston is at tdc by inserting the locking pin in the flywheel should really have replaced the belt when changing the headgasket first of all bit of a bodge job otherwise

    oh dear oh dear oh dear, why do friends always volunteer to do jobs that they aren't up to, if they find a saxo engine difficult to time up then the world is doomed
