Where’s my effin MAP sensor????

Right. This weekend's the weekend that the S/C gets it's final install completed. (Thanks to John and Richard@GMC for sourcing me some alternator brackets)

I have one niggling little question though. I cant find the MAP sensor. I mean I would have thought that it was on inlet manifold, But there are so many little gizmos on it that identifying the MAP sensor is a bit of a nightmare.

I have a vaccum tube leading from the inlet manifold, (fixed attop the timing belt cover) all the way to the drives side wing, could it be on the end of that???

It is a Mk2 2001 VTS and if anyone has any ideas of where it is, Please let me know.

The vacuum tube that goes along the cam belt cover goes to the charcoal purge canister..... NOT the MAP sensor.

You're in the right area though...

The MAP sensor is on the drivers side of the inlet manifold... It will have an electrical connector with 3 wires coming out of it... most probably with pink wires.. It is held in the inlet manifold with a single screw.

It's the only sensor on the drivers side of the inlet manifold, so you shouldn't get it confused...

Bloody electronics.

I've fitted Sigcon3 and the MF2. The MF2 works a treat (although not mapped yet) But the Sigcon3 works for a while, but then completely shuts down if the car is run for about 10Mins continuously. It doesnt want to come back on for about 4 hours. after wich it will come on, but on light throttle application the car splutters and dies. It doesnt under hard acceleration.

Also, My TPS reading at the sensor end with the engine running is 0.51v, but at the ECU end it reads 0.75v. Under 0boost-0vaccum i have calibrated it to be 3.83v (full throttle N/A config) but have callibrated this to only happen at 0boost-0vaccum. Cant understand why it is corrupting the signal during idle.

Doing my nut, any suggestions?????

Right, after running the STD MAP sensor and it working fine, Then realising I have no lights on sig con, but 12v at both switched and un-switched power supply and 5v at 5v supply. And even continuity between the chassis and the earth connector I have come to the conclusion that the sig con is Buggered. Could it be moisture?? (It's covered in silicone though)

Update:

Sig con3 has gone back to GMC who are sending me a sigcon2 instead, as i dont need WI/N02 Control

Hopefully I will connect the new one up and Bingo <img src= "smileys/smoker.gif">

I guess your installing the S/C by your self....guess you really know your way arround motors.....

Hmmm, got stuck with an assignment y'day so didnt get back to this...

What you describe does sound like a knackered unit though. Especially if youre not getting the on lights..

If you have more problems though, give me a shout, as I was fiddling with this things for hours and made a lot of notes.. <img src= "smileys/silly.gif">

Right. New sig con arrived today. I've wired it up, callibrated it and Bingo, Works!!!

I still have a minor problem with it though. The car Idles nicely with it just confusing the 2bar map signal, but as soon as i splice in the TPS wires, the idle goes up the wall. The sensor end reads 0.51v (As it always has) But the ECU end reads 0.75v.

Anyway. All this aside, I have really fucked up big time.

As I was feeding a wire through the bulkhead. I managed to pierce the F ing fuel line and have fuel pissing out all over my hands and the car. What a damn fool!!!!! I couldnt see properly as it was dark. I feel like an idiot and am now going to have serious trouble feeding a new fuel pipe through the car<img src= "smileys/depressed.gif">

Dont know whats wrong with your TPS switch?? Above about 0.65V the ecu will think its on partial throttle...

Bit of a fucker with the fuel hose, as thats gonna be a right cunt to re-thread.... <img src= "smileys/smiley6.gif">

Never as bad as it seems. I'm gonna pick up a fuel line from shitroen and have a mechanic mate coming round saturday.

I think ECU May be sending more than 5v through the map sensor. I discovered that if you put the ignition on, but engine off without any map sensorsignal being fed to the ECU, it on stepping up the voltage(all the way to 10v<img src= "smileys/shocked.gif">), as if trying to self-diagnose a problem with the map sensor. I may take my 5v feed for the sig con from the TPS, not the map sensor and see if that cures it.
