Important! : CV Joint?

  1. #1
Hi guys my forte has developed a bad banging/clunking noise when turning, it's fine after about 40, but makes a whistling noise about 70 (not sure if they are related?) car pulls left quite hard too (noise is coming from passenger side) if your turning at speed ie down backroads...

Guessing it's the CV Joint gone?

How easy/simple is this to change DIY style? If it's a complex job, then how much should I expect to pay at a garage?

And where can I buy one? According to Euro Car Parts website they don't stock any for my car?

Need help asap as I've already covered 350 miles with it knackered so can't have much left before it goes bang

hey, can be done at home with some time spare, the best way to check if its cv joint is to put the steering on full lock and pull away under load but without wheel spinning, get a mate to stand beside the car and confirm which one is noisey, but to replace the c.v joint youl have to remove the driveshaft from the hub, remove the cv boot clip and pull the boot back so its out of the way, then wipe away any grease, there will be a c-clip in the center of the joint on the shaft- holding it onto the shaft, pry it with a screwdriver or whatever you find best and either pull the joint off or tap it with a hammer,(ensuring you dont put stress on the inner cv joint at the gearbox end as you dont want to wreck it , the new one will just pop back on with the tap of a hammer but make sure it "click" into place, regrease joint and fit new clip and that it really, normally youl get a new c.v boot and clip and grease with the joint aswell

also if no where alse stock it citroen always will, and cost at a garage depends on labour rate and price of part but your looking at 100+ all in but shouldnt be more than 150 as its easily done within an hour

Nothing too technical then just a bit fiddly and greasy? But take your time and be gentle with the hammer and it should be a fairly easy job?

Don't suppose you know anywhere that stocks them?

Just edited my post, but if the dealer price is too dear then try GSF car parts and parkers are pretty good

Checked it tonight, and the boot has come off on the hub-end and spat the grease out everywhere

But the actually joint doesn't look to of suffered any damage (still a small amoutn of grease in there

Just to check should this cure the problem? (new boot, grease and clips?) http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ci...50c586f75&CVBK

And how to i go about packing the grease in?

    Cheers

When mine was buggered i changed the cv boot with the replacement kit, it only took bout an hour but only fixed the issue for a few weeks. The replacement driveshaft from euro worked out at £40 quid with £10 of gear box oil and it was only a 90min job to swap the drive shaft over as its basically the same job as replacing the cv boot.

I've brought the boot kit to temporarily fix it any advice on getting the grease in and boot on successfully?

I think new driveshaft is the only real option and for £50 odd not too expensive
