1.4 solid brakes really bad ideas???

  1. #1
i brought a 106 quicksilver with solid discs bavk in dune.
it came with 12months mot and at the time i thought the brakes were bad but got the idea it was due to being solid discs as ive never owned a car with solid discs before.

well my mum drove my car to the shop the other day and has forced me to look at the brakes saying they are shocking lol

    the discs are fine
the pads are fine but ive changed them anyway (got the more expensive pads form euro car parts)
the backefluid is at the correct level and looks quite new to be hounest.

next thing on m list to do is to bled them but if this is not the case then what would u sugest??

are the master cylinder's common to playing up?

or is it that the braks are just shockingly bad.
    some advice please guys?

ive worn the pads in but still the brakes are really bad.

Check your brake lines, may have corroded.

Morral of this story dont buy a quiksilver.

Nah there ok, What car did you have before this ? as in my experience the brakes arnt as good as some other cars out there but if this is not the case try bleeding them.

Servo's dont usually pack up but make sure the vaccum pipe that goes to the inlet manifold is connected up properly.

What car does your mum normaly drive?
You have to remember brake tecknology has come on a long way since the saxo was introduced.
The brakes are up to the job of stopping the car safely on the road, citroen wouldnt produce millions of cars with unsafe brakes on

she has got a renault megan and its only 2 years never than my 1998 quicky.

i will have to get them bled then as the brakes are crap.

and ive had a few cars saxo vtr, corsa sport 1.6, vw polo 16v and all of these had miles better bakes than this so im asuming sumthing is wrong then.

Just put some vtr/s calipers and disks on it.

Its probably the bleeding brakes. Does it have drum brakes at the rear? If so its worth a look, there might be fluid leaking from the rear cylinders and have soaked the brake shoes making them useless. But you can tell by driving if there are any weak brakes- it pulls to the side. Try putting the handbrake on and pulling away in 1st, the back end of the car should dip like a good un, and equally both sides.

i thought quicksilvers had vented discs and same brakes as vtr/s? seen as the westys/furios do.

Nope, pretty much the only reason to choose a westy/furio over a quiky.

How quickly can you stop from 30?

Probably fuck all wrong with your brakes, just mother dearest not used to the feel of them. Which is, shockingly bad throughout the 106/saxo range.

A lot of people who try my car for the first time think my brakes are shit because they aren't as sharp and quick at biting as their brakes so they don't stomp the pedal much. And I've got 4 pots on the front and can assure you, they are not shit.
