Exhaust knocking on Torsion bar

  1. #1
The backbox seems to be knocking on the torsion bar and makes a horrible noise when in idle or pulling off.

I have checked to see if both exhaust rubbers are intact etc and everything is fine.

    Any help??

Adjust exhaust so it clears the rear beam, you can bend the hangers on the back box a wee bit.

Cable tie something soft to the beam where the exhaust is hitting to absorb the vibrations

had a look again and its the last 1-2 inches of the centre section that is knocking on the beam.

Cant seem to wedge anything in or put a cable tie to absorb the vibrations because the c/s is tight to the beam, and i mean tight.

mine did this, was me rushing the exhaust.

undo the clamp and pull the tip down a bit, then rollock the bolts up. sorted!

take it back to where you had it done and tell them

the reason is because the centrepipes hanger doesn't pull it any closer to the body, it just hangs there, so you have to prop the backbox up a little bit when bolting it on or the centrepipe will just lie against the t/b

or, get a smaller rubber for the centre

cable ties round the rubber mounts, use small ones or you'll basically soild mount the exhaust. that and bend the hangers down slightly, that sorted mine!

Sounds like your centre section is too close to the underside of the car. Undo the centre clamp and rotate the centre pipe down a bit towards the road.

If it's a 'full length' centre pipe from the manifold back (can't be rotated), you may have to remove it from the car and dent it where it catches the torsion bar.

Hehe, your in luck dude, i had this problem not long since with my SS system, how low is your car on the back end?, what i did was loosen off the centre pipe olive clamp in the middle and also the backbox olive clamp, got someone to pull the tip of the exhaust down to roughly where you want it, as he was doing that i pulled the centre pipe down aswell and tightened the backbox olive clamp up and then tightened the centre pipe olive clamp up aswell, my centre pipe is roughly sitting | - | that much off the bar now and my backbox hangs about | - - - | that much off the recess, hope this helps, give it a go and get back to me dude .
