Performance....

WHats the best thing to do, I hear that superchips are wank.... Ive only just got the my VTR, going to get some pics up in the next couple of days, Its got a fire hell backbox and K&N induction kit so far with a huge cold air feed. Been told about the enclosed induction kits such as bmc etc...what are the best things to add to increase speed/acceleration without doing major jobs that I'd have to go through my insurers over...??! cheers guys

first of all- EVERYTHING has to go through your insurers or else your policy is void.

go for an enclosed air filter such as the BMC or the Green enclosed kit, full exhaust system, manifold such as the gmc 4-1. after that you need to decide if you want to spend upwards of a grand on some headwork, cams and then a dastek unichip/ ecu remap. might be worth just considering transplanting a vts engine- gmc do them for around 1k or so. but for fuck's sake tell your insurance company
    hope that helps

oh, and fitting either a 1.1 or vts gearbox would improve accelration but lose some top end.

Thanks very much for the reply and information. I will tell them, yes i'm thinking of one of the enclosed induction kits and manifold followed by exhuast system + de-cat...think I will wait a while for head work/cams etc... What are you talking about on the 1.1..?!?! Even with 17s she does go but looing for standard vtr/vts alloys at the moment to increase acceleration, my speedo is slightly ut too as it has 17'' ace alloys but I've already had 126 - altho we wroed this out to be just under 135mph.

i'm talking about fitting the gearbox from a 1.1 saxo, or the gearbox from a vts, as both have a shorter final drive than the vtr 'box. either of these gearboxes will give an increase in acceleration throught the gears, but you lose some top end speed. but who drives around at 120 anyway?

    I do !!!! LOL

On private roads and tracks of course

would the same go for a furio? fitting a 1.1 gearbox onto a 2000 mk2 furio that is.

All saxo and most 106 boxes will fit any saxo

1.1, 1.5d, furio, VTR, VTS all the same box. With different ratios

    I'm sure of it !!!

yep all saxo 'boxes are interchangeable. the 1.1 is the shortest right through to the diesel box which is the longest. mk1 pug 106 rallye gearbox fits too and is shorter still iirc but tops out at 112 and sits at silly revs @70mph.
and yes fitting it to a furio will make a difference, but not as much as on a vtr as the furio box is shorter than vtr anyway.

That sounds like a good idea, I totally agree....who drive at 130..etc lol, so either a 1.1 or vts box ould be good to fit to a vtr? Might be worth looking into...as well as loosing my 17s for 14s/15s...!!
