Need advice for track VTS Engine Mods

I have a mk1 VTS Track car, the engine spec at present is as follows.

Std exhaust & manifold with decat

    Cheapo enclosed raceland induction kit.

Here is a video of the car on track.

I want to get the car to go faster, I will be reducing more weight as a start. I would also like to increase the power.

I cannot increase the noise as I am restricted by track rules, so a big exhaust will be not an option.

Would adding cams & an ecu be a waste of time with a standard exhaust ?

When a car is cammed is it noticably faster than an uncammed one or is it not much faster ? has anyone done any performance test before , and after.

    Honest answers please.

What exhaust system are you useing at the mo?

If you want a quiet system why go for the magnex with a de-cat & 4-2-1

agree with scott, your aloud upto 110db iicr on most tracks, purely depends on budget, go for itbs cams and stand alone with good exhaust will see you 160+, but what brakes susspenion do you have?

To do Croft at a reasonable price these days, your car needs to be under 88db static. Anything bar a standard exhaust will be over that.

I don't think cams will give you any noticeable advantage mate. Get the car on a major diet and spend the money on better suspension, brakes and rubber.

Car has to be limited to 88db at 5000 rpm (that is the regulation the circuit)

The car with the std exhaust, manifold & decat is 83dB at present

The suspension is spax PSX, with poly bushes
The brakes are 266mm with 23mm master cylinder

Croft is the track. the car is already stripped , but I reckon 50kg more to remove.

Just looking for a bit more oomph,

Is it 88db on all tracks or just croft?

Could consider a little bit of headwork?

you could, still have 4.2.1, but have a sports cat not decat? maybe, cams and a remap will take you toabout 140/145 so will give you a decent benifit. turbo?

also hope its onli croft with tht sound limit mind will have no chance

    also considered a shorter gearbox?

i had a magnex system on my old track car with decat and 4 2 1 and i made 86db when tested at combe. i was quite surprised cos it was near deafening in the car. it had been stripped out though

I would give the engine a bloody good service, renew anything that looks worn and do suspension/bushes/brakes. You will want a nice strong engine if your going to be giving it some stick on track....

If im right, jon's already been using the car on track for a while.

I would suggest changing the filter for a better one as i personally think raceland ones are terrible and dont really allow much airflow as they have a small hole they use at the front of the slam panel for the cold air feed and a small cone filter. id suggest using a bmc or pipercross viper or venom.
that and the exhaust i prev mentioned will already make it feel a bit faster and give it better throttle response.
