Important! : Saxo VTR Running Hot

    Since i got the car my temp has run at about 3 quarters. if i go above 100mph then this can rise until about 7/8ths of the way up. i just had a new engine block as the head gasket blew.

    anyone got any ideas why it is running hot? radiator maybe? or maybe its not being cooled properly.

    any response welcome!

    mine can get upto 3/4 of the way up sometimes and even alittle bit more like you said before, but I dont get any nasty smells from the engine so i think its just how they run, a mate of mine has a vtr aswell his does the same water levels are all good rad + fan work fine also, wouldnt worry about it mate.

    well if the tool behind the wheel didn't go so bloomin fast... there not designed to sustain over 100mph+ for long periods, keep it below 70 should be fine, check there is enough anti freeze and water in the rad and make sure it is properly bled.

    they do run hot every owner says the same about the vtr, i think the temp gauge is just over sensitive, most cars the temp gauge dosnt even move when you stuck i traffik but the saxo gauge just gets you paranoid by going every were

    thanks for replying. i feel much better to know that alot of people have the same issue and that its nothing to really worry about. i checked the rad and stuff and its all working fine. the fan kicks in and stuff too. jus woried bout sittin in long queues at cruises and it blowin up in my face lol

    ye well just remember if your gonna take it over 100 just be carful how long you stay there at that speed lol

    yh, i was racing an audi. so i was kinda jus nudging 100. never rele over and not even at that speed for more than maybe 3 seconds lol

    ok... u guys have no life but to laff at people over the internet... what does that tell you. u all need to get a life. who are u all to tell me what to do! atleast i can tell wen my tailgates colour dosen't macth the rest of my car.

    endanger peoples lives? like myself. no others. obvioulsy someone like u knows that an audi a3 will shit all over a saxo. so as u can imagine the race lasted about half a second. jus muckin around at 3am. which to be fair u wud do if ur car had enuff power to be legally aloud on a motorway

    where i live exactly isn't rele ruff bt down the road is a ruff estate and i think i must jus be in the area in the insuracers eyes. i got that vtr and modds included for 1800. i don't think thats terrible after bein quoted 6000 afew months before

    Now that im keeping mine for a while longer, im gonna get it lowered, nice wheels, general touch ups here and there... Basically not spending out bare monies on it but ya know make it look decent.

    yh thats basicly what am doin. obviously my cars fucked. it has been since i bought it. i reckon wen it comes to selling am guna have to seel it in parts. u did a good job on the badge holes. can't tell they were there, i don't have the balls to attempt it myself lol

    The filling was fine and sanding was all good. The paint just doesnt shine like the actual paint work. Gonna get some t cut on it and try polish it up after that. Doubt itll work tho.

    Not many people actually do wanna try it themselves incase they fuck it up lol, like i said it's a first car, gotta try shit out somewhere

    yh thats true. people on ur thread sed to try lacquer i think i saw. that wud make it shine but its still a rele hard job to match the paint. car companies tend to make mixtures so other companies don't copy. did u get the paint sing the paint code of the car? or was it chaged sice comin out of the factory?

    Nah got the right colour, which it is. The laquer did fuck all!, its just like a matte version of the right colour lol

    nope, still does it. got a new pipe thing for the rad cus i fort the water might not be goin round but it did fuck all. so am tryin not to panic. as long as it don't go in the red am cool

    I would recommend it's time to change your thermostat mate. The fan is controlled by a sensor on the radiator separate from the rheostat which controls when the water in the engine is allowed to exit the engine and enter the radiator for cooling. The thermostatic alloy used in the rheostat s
    Degrades and starts taking more heat than standard to open the passage to the rad. Had this problem with my mk1 1.1, mk1, vtr and my vts recently!?scrap yard will supply a replacement for £5-10!

    I have a 99 saxo vtr and the temps show it running around the three quarter mark constantly, Ive heard this is normal but what worries me is when i take the cap off the bottle the water goes everywhere like its really overheating, Was thinking thermo or maybe a new rad..The fan works but doesnt seem to coll it down

    Thats what happens when you open the lid to your expansion tank when te cars been warmed up.
