Words Cannot Describe My Anger With This Car.. Clutch Problem

  1. #1
Yesterday + every day before that for the past year, cars been fine clutchwise, no problems. Today, go to start car, clutch feels spongy, drive off and when it eventually finds the biting point, upon reving moderately, the car doesn't transfer the power to the wheels, and instead just makes the revving sound.

I've tried to adjust clutch cable, but hopefully I've failed and that is the fix, as what's the point in spending 100's of quid on a new clutch + labour.

sounds like clutch failure or some lubricant on the friction plate,

Do they really go so suddenly though?

Well the symptoms are obvious really. if your getting no drive to the wheels even though the clutch has reached biting point then it points to the clutch slipping.

it could be a stretched clutch cable but that happens over time generally,

well my mate charges £120 for the labour + about £40-£50 for a decent clutch. for a garage though expect about £250

Yeah am gonna ring round my local garage tomorrow. Cheers mate real help

Would it be easier or practical to just fit a new 1.1 Box in? Or is that more work?

well, its not any more work as the box has to come off anyway. don't see if theres any point in replacing the box unless the gear stick is like stirring soup!

Nah box is fine, few crunches when going into Reverse, and going 2nd>4th, and can change gear without using clutch (Although never did that, as thought it'd damage the clutch.. the irony now lol)
