Important! : Hand Brake issue.

  1. #1
OK about 3 weeks ago I did a big overhaul of my brakes.

Changed all the discs pads etc and bead them in they are perfect nothing wrong there.

I had to wind back the pistons on the rear calipers obviously but my hand brake went slack.

Tightened it up but only one wheel is locking when the hand brake is applied.

One wire is longer than the other, the one on the side of the wheel that doesn't apply does this suggest I wound one piston back further than the other?

Is there a way of taking the slack out of the wire that is longer on the caliper.

I think this car might have had an issue with the hand brake already since I found a bit of hose pipe on the hand brake to try and balance out the wires but it obviously wasn't working.

    Any help appreciated.

Sounds like one of the cables is stretched, winding the pistons back has never affected the handbrake cable its self on any saxos i have done, most the time the handle doesnt come up as far but thats due to thicker pads and disks.

But it still doesn't alter the length of the cable.
One of them is stretched/about to snap, or one has snapped in the past and it hasn't been replaced as a set pair.

Ah cool mate this is what I had thought when I looked at them.

Any idea how much roughly to buy from Citroen or any motor parts places, look fairly straight forward to fit so that's ok.
Oh also Steve, it won't affect the wear on my reard pads as I brake, like uneven wear?

dodgy handbrake cable won't affect normal braking.

erm i can't remember, think they are like £12 each or something, really easy to fit.
    Replace them as a pair.

wasn't a double post, just checked the price and posted again

Easiest way to get them out is put them slack as fuck, then the metal nut on the end of the cable at the caliper pulls outwards from the back of the car from the piston arm.
You'll see once you get stuck in.
