    Ay Guys

I have just bought myself a VTS 1.6 16V and would like to change the Cambelt.

How much should i be looking to spend...

    Cambelt Kit? "Good one"
What is a good make for cambelts?
How much to fit if i buy the part?

    Thanks guys, all the best

if you want a Guarantee you best let the garage buy the belt or you wont get a Guarantee on the cambelt itself because if it snaps they will blame your belt.

Gates belts are the only ones we will fit to customers cars though Dayco are a good brand too

    Ditto ditto ditto...

I just bought a vts and also want to change belts as almost due at 75k. kent/tonbridge/tunbridge wells area!!!

gates is the ONLY belts i fit!!

most cambelt kits will have a gates belt these days, i do a cambelt changed if you supply the parts for 75 quid.

if we was suppling the parts then be looking around 180ish quid.

just a rough giude, we would normal change the water pump too on a full cambelt change that also includes ilder and tensioner.

My cit hand book says: "Cambelt due every 75k"

yer 75k is normal, but if it has been driving hard, i.e. most saxo are!!! should be around the 50k mark,

if i brought a car, would always get the belt do just for peice of mind!

    Don't leave it too late.

You need to consider time as well as mileage when looking to see if the belt needs to be done.

My vectra needs it done every 4years/40k.

I think Citroen is 7years/70k - but I'd personally look to do it every 5years/50k but that's just me.

No harm in doing it early other than cost (£200ish). The cost of leaving it too late would be well over £500 at a garage

i would never take to 5 years, 3 year max!

True true...... I gonna call the garage who serviced it at 50 and 60k to see if they hold records to it being changed.....failing the peace of mind it is and will change it... should i go to citreon?

I had a look at it and it looks nearly new wil seems no wear on teeth and only dull marks on top surface from rotation....

My VTS have the head re-built at 74,000 Headwas done, Cambelt was done and a some other bits done, but i bought the car with 89,000, i just want to do the cambelt for piece of mind, what do you think?

P.S When the head was re-build would the headgasket have been done??

    Thanks

yes mate all gaskets get cjanged when a headgasket has been done as the head is usually skimmed and a slightly thicker head gasket is put on to make up the difference. you can somjetimes reuse rocker cover gaskets though .

cheers about timing guys i think ill get it sorted out as i dont want it to go on me
