Important! : Saxo VTR 19000 miles advice

    Hello .. Just some advice if you can people..
    ive Had my saxo for four years now... and has been kept in a garage..
    its not been startd for four years .. what will i have to do to get it up and running and road worthy.. i,e tyres.. brakes.. engine etc and how much you think it would rougly cost..

    Try starting it obviously, battery might be flat so that would be my first port of call..

    I'd be surprised if the battery is any good at all, sitting this long, it's plates have probably sulfated so badly it isn't likely to take and hold a charge.

    Probably smash it through a service to replace all plugs, etc

    do you think an engine rebuild or anything like that mite be required.. because the engine is still a baby... any idea on much it would cost to get fully working mate .. Thanks

    I dont think you would need to rebuild it, just flush old oils etc out so you can replace, they can generally do that on a service, have you tried starting it?

    If im honest im not 100% but get a battery first and go from there

    No it won't need a rebuild mate, as said above do a service new oil, spark plugs etc and battery..maybe new coolant.

    as above mate,new battery,plugs,air filter,fuel filter,oil and oil filter,should fire stright up then might be worth changing the coolant and you will need to change the brake fluid which will have absorbed water/moisture from the air after been laid up for so long.

    Wouldnt it be wize to check the engine isnt seized if its dry before spending all the money on service and tyers etc.

    tbh 4 years is nothing... our jedi single seater started on the button without doing anything after 20 years. i would just get a jump pack and try and start it, and then go from there service etc.

    charge battery see if it holds a charge then full srvice
    maybe new battery,spark plugs,air filter,fuel filter(empty old fuel),oil and oil filter
    check brake pad/shoes after you get it started check the clutch see if it goes into all gears

    I was under the impression that oil breaks down over time and can become naturally damaging to the engine?

    Personally:
    Full service
    New fluids for everything
    New tyres
    New brake hoses
    Check the brakes
    Check battery

    my brothers cars been sat for 5. needs new pads, calipers, shoes, new rear cylinders and then we need to drop the fluids and service it. it starts though, just doesnt stop

    Take the spark pugs out and put some penetrating oil down the Bores and leave it for 24 hr's. Makes sure rings have some lube round them in case they are stuck.

    My vtr was lying up for 8 months before i got it, i got a new battery, spark plugs, oil and bled the breaks and it started first turn of the key.

    Thankyou very much everyone... its my mates car and have been told it has been left on the drive way(not garage) for four years which means maybe engine seized ...???we lifetd bonnet and thiers only slight rust on show.. helpp !!!!

    i take it is now going to be harder for him to get it up and running

    hi mate, doubt very much youll be seized, id recommend buying a set of 2nd hand alloys, probably will be cheaper than replacing tires, can pick up VTR rims for next to nothing usually with decent tires and spotless alloys and S rims for a little more..

    Drain everything, coolant, oil, fuel, gbox oil. whip your filters off.
    change all, add new fuel and battery! good to go i reckon

    you might wanna change clutch/throttle cables as they could be brittle from not being used and snap pretty easy, give electrical connections a WD-40 up basically just clean stuff..Get new handbrake cables if yours dont work anymore, make sure the brakes are pukka too.
