Piper exhaust fitting question

  1. #1
    Hello

I bought the following piper exhaust off a member but struggling to work out how its supposed to fit. Item was advertised as fitting a Saxo with CAT underneath but both rear of CAT and beginning of middle section silencer have the same type of fitting.

I have done a search and found somewhere that people have just mated the two together and used an olive joint with exhaust paste to hold it all together. What would everyone else reccommend? I dont want to cut and weld any of my exisitng system if I dont have too as i would eventually like to put it back to standard.

Thanks in advance for any help

With Piper exhausts you need a ring that connects the two ends together.
I'll do a search to show you what I mean.

    Piper provide something like this:

The guy who sold you the exhaust should have provided you with it.
I don't know how easy they are to get hold of.
If you measured it up I don't see why you couldn't just buy one off eBay.

You get thoes doughnut gaskets from local motorfactors or ask at a garage

I had the full system mate and you just use ring joints to mate the ends together and abit of paste does the job.

Thanks for that, ill pop down there tomorrow and see if I can pick one up. Cheers for the help, was thinking that I might have to get rid of it.

Thanks for the above help, managed to find a suitable ring to sit between both joints which seems to work well but now have a problem with the backbox.

Even when the backbox is not connected to the centre section the exhaust does not sit on one hanger correctly (half of it nearly falls off) and the exhaust sits about 6" down and 6" to the right of the bumper cut out. When you try and force it in to position, it then hits the beam?

I was told it fits VTS and early VTR models with the CAT underneath. I have a Mk1 1999 VTR with the CAT underneath but I am starting to think that this if for another car.

    Any help? Thanks again.

I've had clearance issues with Piper's before fairly easy to overcome, what looks to be disaster can be fixed easily.

Slacken the centre section from the cat/decat, to the point where it's joined together but you can twist it.

Now do the same with the back box, slacken the back box join so you can twist it.

Play around so you can have the exhaust clearing the rear beam and a common place where they can kock is the exhaust tunnel underneath on the bend.

Once you have done this add exhaust paste and tighten everything up.
I've fit exhausts where I thought they had no hope of sitting properly (Saxsports and Pugsports are like this). Once you've done a few you get the hang of it.

And also just play around with different hangers etc. eventually you will there!

''chris_furio'' in the picture of your VTS, those black alloy's.. what are they?

Not black, anthracite. But i'll let you off lol. They're 15" flat face compomotive motorsport's. Best wheels for a saxo imo, but then again I would be bias!

Thanks for help but not sure what adjustment you can make. Even with the back box not connected, hanging it on the rubber mounts put is way out. Its like you need to bend a support or move a hanger before it will fit. This is the backbox with and the hangers in question, does it look as though it should fit my car?:

from them last pics it looks like its not for your car

you could heat the metal exhaust hangers up and bend them to make it fit
