  1. #1
    Just wanted to know,

    How many people (if any)

actually are NOT running door mirrors,

As im looking into it, with mirror blanks, Wanted to know if anyone has any first hand experience driving without any.

    Thanks, Andy

    WTF? Errrrrrrrr. Dunno mate.

Ive got some steering wheel blanks though if you want them. Also limo tinted front wind screen.
  4. #4
    Why would you do that?
  5. #5
MOT isnt a issue, as iv just had one done, the week before trax, so i can put standard ones back on.(car will only get weekend use too)

Yeah, no mirrors is illegal. iirc you can get rid of the rear view though.

Mate, my rear view mirror has broken off and i fkin hate it, and that isnt an essential for MOT etc. No wing mirrors would be hell, trust me.

By law you only require a mirror on the drivers side.-
about 25yrs ago it was common place for a car to leave the factory with only one mirror, and the addition of the 2nd mirror was an optional extra!

I have a classic car he doesnt need wing mirrors (not a legal requirement) and its a bitch to drive. You dont realise how much you use your mirrors until you dont have them.

Plus cars that are supposed to have them look odd without them.......its would be like you with no ears.

There was a punto in FC a few months back with blanks, but had one on a suction pad attached to the drivers door for getting around, as soon as he parks up somewhere it goes in the glovebox...winner!

    Have the magazine somewhere still

What do vans do then, when they have metal rear doors or something separating the cabin to the back?

I once drove a vw lt35 van that had a rear view mirror even though it had a solid internal bulkhead seperating the cab from the load bay. It came from the factory like that!

The rules as far as I remember are that an off side mirror is compulsory and you have to have one other mirror (either internal rear view, or near side external).

If the car is a classic that did not have 2 mirrors to start with they are exempt.

No van ive ever been in or drove has had one, all from the factory like that! Having a rear view mirro and metal doors on the back or a a wall inbetween is as good as having a rear view mirror with a peice of paper stuck on it. Nahhh

^ it struck me as fairly bizzare as well. I presume it's because they did that model as a cab chassis and a flat bed version as well. You could see the indent where the rear window would have been if it had been a flat bed or whatever.

The ford escort van I drove a couple of times also had one, but to be fair it only had a half height bulkhead so you would have been able to use it had somebody specified the rear window option (this one was a basic one and had blank rear doors).

only need drivers side for MOT
  28. #28
when db_sax says 'what do vans do....' he is trying to say sax0gal is wrong by saying its a requirement to have an interior mirror. Hes not genuinely asking what do van drivers do as a question lmao

idea of mirror blanks looks odd. why not 106 mirrors? look way better

that toss-pot who got banned comes to mind aswell
  29. #29
Fairly sure you would get pulled on an annoyingly regular basis becuase no mirrors would be an easy spot for the old po-po
  30. #30
mot requirement to have 2 mirrors

plus you'd have whiplash from constantly turning around!

on the van topic, its normally because the windows are all made the same with mirrors attached, so they don't know what its going to go into and you may aswell leave it on!

ive drove mine with no drivers side mirror for a bit, when it got knocked off.. it feels a bit dodgy,
  33. #33
the glass fell out of my drivers side once.....the drive home was hell....kept looking at it and being suprised i couldnt see behind me......hated it.

EDIT - I also thought this was a thread about going for a drive with that mirrorblanks guy who got banned.....
