Important! : Gearbox, help?

Hi guys & girls, got a few questions i need answering...

first off, when i put my car in gear(s) ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th ) it still moves side to side as if its in neutral, any ideas why this is?

2nd thing, if i move my gear stick right over to the left and move it side to side it makes a LOUD knocking noise, as if it is knocking on the side of the gear box tunnel that runs down the centre of the car, any ideas what this could be?

last of all, will a BENT gear selector arm make it hard to go into first an 3rd gear?

Help much Needed and appreciated. thanks in advance..

check the gear linkage under the car, there should be some bushing on the part that joins onto the selector rod directly under the car where the gearstick routes (will be under the heatshield), also this could be your knocking noise> the rod can hit on the heat shield ( mine was anyway) , and if your bushes are worn this will make gear selection difficult

, but a bent rod , linkage or arm will most certaintly make gear selection hard

i have describbed the problem in there, hope it helps also there is a pic in there of the problem or you have to go to google to get the pic up, all is describbed in that thread
