Looking to get my VTR a bit quicker, so far I've had it lowered 60mm all round, stripped out apart from front two seats (including carpet, sound proofing etc), straight through exhaust and 4-2-1 manifold. Kind of lost as to how to make it quicker without spending a fortune on throttle bodies or something stupid. any suggestions? all opinions welcome
Mk1 vtr, what to do next?

#2well youve done breathing mods, so the next step is cams, headwork and a remap
-
#3rarther than doing the above id rarther put a 16valve engine in as 120bhp in a vtr is going to cost alot to achieve id imagine but if you could do the work yourself 500 quid for a full 16v engine and away you go mate.
-
#4i was thinking about a VTS conversion but have no idea what all the costs would be, or any idea where to start with it all lol. Looking to get it remapped on payday jeff so looking forward to that, will it make much of a difference? Kinda thinking about selling the vtr and saving for VTS haha
-
#5p.s. bit retarded but what is headwork exactly?
-
#6Mapping it, waste of money tbh
-
#7whys that mark mate?
-
#8Head work is exspensive, you remove your head send it somewherelike hoflow heads, they rebore the ports on it ext also can have bigger valves very very expensive
-
#9how much we looking at mark? ballpark figure?
-
#10For head work, hoflow heads start at 360quid iicr... Will also need new hg and hg bolts another 60, also may aswell do timing belt water pump whilts heads off. If u don't wona 16v it, cam it, about 170, then u could always have tht mapped.
-
#11i wanna 16v it but does that mean i basically need a vts engine put in it? so really for all that i'm looking at £500, not as bad as i was expecting haha cheers for the info though mate!
-
#1216v it!, you need, complete engine, loom, unlocked ecu, idealy a vts gear box or sports box, and a 16v top rad pipe
-
#13jesus, would probably work out a tad more expensive wouldnt it? lol what you got?
-
#14Nope, can get all what I mentioned above fir 350
quid mate. Me? I have cammed itbs ect on a vts check my thread out, also your 4-2-1 won't fit a vts block -
#15ahh poo. where dyu reckon i can get all these bits from? is there certain companies that would do it all for me etc?
-
#16DON'T USE HIFLOW HEADS FOR HEAD WORK!!!!
It's a no brainer 16v it or BOOOOST -
#17only thing is, I have to drive this to work everyday and fuel consumption will be a bitch if I cam it lol. where can I get it cammed cz i have no idea how to do all this myself? any advice or if someone can send me a link to somewhere would be appreciated lol
-
#18Try mandyslover on here for conversion parts, and ppl tht are breaking vts in for sale section.

#23Brad
I was in the same postion as you a couple of weeks ago, thinking about what ill need to do to get more speed power etc.
So i went for a 16v lump. i paid 400quid it come with
1/engine
2/inlet and exhaust manifolds and downpipe
3/starter and alternator
4/single plug wiring loom
5/un-locked ECU
6/radiator with cooling hoses
7/cooling fan assembly
8/throttle cable
9/vts gearbox
then my mechanic charged me 100quid for the conversion! once it was in it started first time on the key.
best 500quid iv ever spent
