Engine removal / refitting question

  1. #1
Engine just went bang on the girl friends 1.1 SPI. (1998 Mark 1)

Seen some low milage engines on ebay quite cheap.

I've changed a few engines before and was wondering if I'd be able to change it without removing the gearbox?

Whats the best way to do this, engine would have alternator on it when fitted. (Id rather not remove it unless i really have too!)

    Advice and tips please.

When you say drop the whole lot out the bottom do you mean engine and gearbox then split them on the floor and attach the gearbox to the new engine?

Engine would have to come out the top to do it, it a bit faffy to do tbh. Takes a max of 20mins to get both shafts out to take the box out with it to, youll spend that stressing and abusing hte thing in and out of places at least
