Alternator ?

Was away for a few days and cars been sitting when i came back i tried to start it and it was trying to turn but just wouldnt catch so got a jump start and it started.. My battery light was on constant i had no power steering but i took it a drive and it started misfiring like mad then i turned a corner and my car just cut out tried to turn it but nothing it wouldnt start. I put the battery on a trickle charge all night and got the battery in this morning and it started first turn battery light is still illuminated on the dash so i got a volt meter over the battery (Without Alternator) Then with the car running both about 12.4 volts each so no power is coming from the alternator.. Weird how it lay for a few days and run fine before i was away and then finally packed in with the car not running but i suppose thats a saxo lol

Thier are 2 types of saxo vtr alternators ? Is that right...? I have a 51 Plate Vtr so should any 2000 - 2003 vtr alternator fit my car ? I have the one with the ring and the plug connector like this.

Its just so i buy the right one as i need to drive to a friends garage and only get one pop at it as i have charged the battery and that should get me the little drive up the road

    Thanks

Wow, for once some logical deduction in this section!! most people would think 12v is fine! should be more like 14v when the engines running. but anyway to your question i would just get one from Eurocarparts, take the registration in. and should be able to do it off your numberplate, only thing thats different is the plugs iirc.
