    hi,

Dunno if any1 remembers... but i have been having a weird noise with the sax for a while now, thought it was wheel bearings... but turns out my driveshaft was bent, which is what i thought, but i was told it was wheel bearings, so i bought the part...

So just took it to the garage, its getting both replaced... £125 + VAT...

    is that a good price?

£125 +vat for just the labour to fit 2 shafts?
    Fook that

If its inc parts then go for it but I doubt it will be tbh mate

Yeah if thats just labour then not really, if its parts and labour then hell yes!

The shafts cost about £110 ish but the garage will pay less but still even if they pay £60-70ish then its a good deal for labour.

nah parts aswel... all new valeo's

already ok's the work to be done. just wanted to know if i was being ripped off

They said they were valeo shafts?

If they did they are lying, valeo have never made driveshafts and never will, and thts from what I've seen working in a motorfactor

So was it 125 for 1 shaft and fitting? If it was that's about an average price I'd say, the would be paying about £70+vat for one shaft, like someone has said so that's £55 labour and most garages will charge £35-£40 an hour and so I'd say the price your paying is about right tbh could have maybe got it a bit cheaper but your certainly not being ripped off

I'll do it for you if you like for 95 and you're only down the road

cost me £68 with px of my driveshaft to buy a new one from a local motorfactors, and about 3 hours to fit in shit cramped conditions and a citroen jack, a garage should have it done in no time!

do it youself mate if its the passenger side, its the easier one!

make sure you get the right one for your model as theres tapered and non tapered ends, unsure when this changed over.

i have done a few drive shafts before. 1 on a 96 fiesta, one on a Mark 1 XR2, and on a punto... but didnt have any tools, and really could not be arsed with the fuckery, plus i need it doing during the day, and i was at work... so paying for it was the only option.

Cheers for the offer boony, if i would of refreshed the page i would of defo take u up on that offer.

the jobs done now. all is good, noises have stopped, apart from one of them, i used to get a load noise, that is really hard to describe, whenever i was in 4th or 5th doing over 40 100% of the time. Now i didnt hear it for a good 45 mins of motorway driving until i was doing about 80-85 (i know, tut tut and so on) then it did it for about 3 seconds and then stopped. not noticed it all day though, and i ahe done about 180 miles on it since.

    so puzzled there

He did say the passengers front wheel bearing wasnt great, but defo no need to get it changed. its a shame coz i have got a bearing for the front drivers side, but i am guessing they dont go on either?
