Is that temp sensor for the dashboard display?

Blue one is dash guage I think - why not get car up to temp and pull the plug off it? You should see the guage react by going right up or right down, I can not rememebr which way!

yep most certain it is for the temp gauge in side the car

When i unscrew the sensor from the thermostat the fan just kicks in...

    Cheers Ben

edit: Have just changed this sensor but the temp guage is still playing up. (needle starts from middle when cold and drops to the bottom when hot and stays down there.)

Oh mann! gotta be the guage I guess. Damn cars eh!

that sensor is both the engine temp sensor and the gauge sender, on saxos it does both

Has anyone mest around with the dash inside e.g. had it out to change bulbs etc because sounds like the gauge has been put in wrong inside the car if its reading half way when stone cold and goes to the bottom when at running temp

you having the same problem aswell ben?

Does the blue one not measure coolant temp for the ECU, and the green one screwed into the head is for the gauge on the dash?

not sure, everyone on this forum has been saying the blue one is for the dash display.

If the fan comes on when you unplug the blue sensor, I'd probably go with that one being the coolant temp sensor for the ECU.

I thought it was the green one.

I had this problem so changed both now everything works !

the blue one is definately for the ecu then as fan kicks in when its removed, so the green one is certainly for the dashboard display?

edit: where is this green sensor? the only green sensor i see is the one that leads to the top of the exhaust manifold heat shield.

The blue is a sensor. It controls the ecu and the gauge.

The green is, for what it's worth, a switch. It closes when the temp gets really hot and turns on your warning light.

But, depending on the age and model, some used both, some used one. There are two really really good guides in the articles section that are well worth premium membership for.

Mines a later 3 plug ecu VTR so would the blue one control both the ECU and temperature guage?

has anybody solve this problem? I have the same problem. temperature gauge shows half when it's cold and zero when it's on working temperature. Sensor works fine, i guess that must be gauge problematical.

I always thought that the green one was for the ecu. In fact this last week I have been swapping green ones and noticing the difference in how it runs- misfire cured. In my single plug the green is defininately for the ecu and engine

Why do you think that the fan is connected to the ECU?

double post, anybody know how to delete them?

the best way to figure out is to disconect one by one, when is disconected and you start the engine, gauge must show zero, in my case for gauge is this sensor which starts the fan when i disconect it. But still I think that the problem is in the gauge.

I changed the blue sensor and that didnt fix it.. doesnt bother me really as I know my radiator/coolant pipes/coolant/water pump/thermo/engine is all good, no leaks etc.

johnr32 when did you notice that your gauge is not working like it should... I have my problems because i change dials from another saxo, my didn't have temperature gauge.

It was like that when I bought it but didnt really notice it until I was driving home. My money is on a dodgy connection behind the dash...theres a guide on here to get to the dash but dont have the time
