    Why textured paint?

Can get a great finish with roughing up surface with a smooth pad, primer, rub down with 240 grit or a smoother 360 grit pad, do that 3 times, paint then rub down, repeat 3-4 times, last coat of paint you don't have to sand (can if you want, then laquer)

This is what I've done and it's came out as smooth as a milkybar

what so you want it to get a smooth finish?
    theres always high build primer

i dont want it smooth i want to restore it to same as the other original strips , always thought it was textured

hi mate the stuff u just listed is pretty crap tbh it flows and dries pretty much smooth. we use upol texture spray at work it comes in 4 different textures ultra fine - fine - meduim - course its good stuff and is really hard wearing
  10. #10
ah ok, Which texture would you say the trims are orignally then as i want it to match the front, side and rear ones.
    Thanks
  11. #11
well you could always put high build primer on then not rub it down
  12. #12
that will make it smooth wont it?
  13. #13
no itl make it textured if you dont rub it down.
my mate did it when he painted his car he used a high build primer then put matt black paint ontop and came up similar sort of style to bumpstrips.
probably the closest you will get with paint

ahh might give it a try then, so 1 coat of high build then spray matt black?
  15. #15
stick with the textured spray mate. my local spray shop would be able to tell you which texture as in ultra fine - fine - meduim - course but i;d go with med try it out. and def stick with the upol stuff i use alot of their paints and its really good and hard wearing

well not sure if its the best way but its what my mate did and came up just how i can imagine youd want your bumpstrips to come up like
and i think he used just the one coat yeah

ill see if i can get the proper stuff if not i might just try mat black, its only for my splitter, might not notice it because it scrapes the floor anyway

get some plastic spraypaint from halfords mate will do the job
  20. #20
sell it at motorfactors if they mix paint all places around here sell it

The bump strips never were painted from the factory. The reason they are textured is the moulding of the plastic leaves this effect. If you sand down your bumpers it looks the same as the bump strips. Normally people just spray them with matt black paint. You can also get matt finish lacqure

im sure you can get plastic paint that the colour of the original plastics

yeah u cai mentioned it in a earlier post its made by upol and its textured and is made especially for the job.
