Important! : GEARBOX Question?

  1. #1
Hello another question about a gearbox.

What will my MK2 VTR be like with a 1.4 FURIO gear box?

i knw it will pull a little better through out the gears and go up the rev's faster, will i get a better 0-60 time? and better acceleration? i knw it will knock a fair bit of the top end.

    answer's needed, thanks in advance.
    many thanks.

    dan.

A furio box in a VTR won't be so radically different acceleration wise. 1st and 2nd gear are slightly shorter on the furio box as opposed to the VTR one but all the other ratios are the same. Also the furio box has non sports ratios and won't be as strong as a "sports" box (VTR/VTS/GTi etc) You'd be better getting a VTS box as it's a good compromise between acceleration and motorway driving.

Oh right ok mate. thanks for the help was just wondering as my mate had a saxo VTR, and he put a gear box from an ''S1 rallye'' in it, and that was rapid. topped out at 112, but got there ridiculously fast. lol, just wondering if this would have the same kind of effect, probably just do a VTS conversion thanks for reply

Yeah any gearbox from a saxo/106 will fit your vtr. An S1 rallye box is a worthwhile mod and will make the "R" feel very nippy indeed but top end will be worse as in high revving and lower top speed. Driving down the motorway at 70mph in 5th with an S1, you'll be doing about 4250rpm. If you want a compromise get a 1.4 XSi box from a pug 106 or a VTS box. Any box other than a diesel or VTR box will see a nice increase in acceleration but stick to a gearbox from a sport model as they run a stronger diff.

    okay mate thanks!

going to look into getting a xsi box or a VTS box.
if i choose the box from a xsi shall it be the 1.4 or 1.6 box? or does it not matter?

    thanks./

A mate of mine has got a 1.1 gearbox in his vts, acceleration is imense but top head is seriously reduced!!! When you past him on the motorway doin 75 his car sounds like it's on the limiter lol

Cheer's for the help and advice guys!

spoke to one of my mates and he has a S1 Rallye box, said he will sell.

something to do with the gear rod/ gear selector arm on the box is bent though, and made him keep needing clutch release bearings?

any idea what this is and how much it would be to fix?

he wants about £150 for the gearbox.

    thanks

Gear link are about £15 - £20 each (2 short 1 long) there is also a return arm which the ball drops off which are about £30, also replace release bearing sleeve (3bolt shaft on box) about £10.

yeah but if i do that then the box wont last very long at all, as its only meant to deal with half the horse power that a VTR has.. so it will shorely just rip it to pieces.

any body please tell me what i will need to get fo the S1 rallye box in my last comment. what i will need to fix and how much it would cost...

    thanks

The 106 1.3 s1 rallye box is the preffered box, if you can find a good one
