Important! : GEARBOX Question?

  1. #1
    Hi guy's,

i want to know what my Mk2 VTR will be like with a 1.4 FURIO gearbox?
i knw it will pull better and go threw the rev's abit quicker.
will i get a better 0-60 time? and better acceleration? however i knw i will lose out a little bit on my top end.

    answers needed. thanks in advance

    regards.

It will be exactly the same as driving the car with a vtr gearbox

Both the furio and vtr gearbox uses the same final drive

So it won't accelerate any faster or slower

Stick with you vtr gearbox mate, unless you want to change it for one that will be a bit better in the acceleration area than the vtr box, in which case get a 16v box or xsi/rallye gearbox

i dont agree with the above every vtr/s or gti with the 1.4 box is by far faster than a standard 1 you would just top out at 115-120 instead of 135

will say tho it wont last long

pretty much answered all your own questions on that 1 matey. not much more you need to know.

vtr box was 3.7:1, vts/gti 3.9:1, and a lot of the smaller CC cars were 4.1:1 or 4.3:1 final drive, series 1 rallye had optional extra from factory for a 4.5:1 final drive - quite rare.

there are also a few variants of gearset throughout the years, particularly in the citroen ax and early 106 range. especially if you start looking at 1.1s etc.

You have clearly either not read what the guy is asking or you don't have a clue

The 1.4 FURIO gearbox is the same as the quicksilver gearbox too has the same 3.77 final drive as the vtr, so you will not accelerate any faster, well 1st and 2nd with the furio box may be a tiny bit quicker, but will barely be noticeable, but will certainly not make the difference you are saying

How ever if you have a 1.4 XSI gearbox which has a 4.29 final drove it will accelerate alot faster through the revs

So wether you've hears the statement on the 1.4 xsi gearbox and assumed all 1.4 boxs are the same I don't know

But if you fit the furio box to a vts/gti it will make it slower since the 16v use a better final drive standard than the furio

okay cheers for the help mate! just wondering because my mate fitted a 1.3 S1 Rallye box to his VTR and that was rapid..

how much could i pick up a good xsi box for, and will i notice a difference in 0-60 if i fit a xsi boxx?

    thanks again/

Yer the s1 box is the shortest, an will improve acceleration alot, I had the 1400 xsi box on my vtr an tht was an amazing box, it suits the 8v wel I thought

Erm tbh mate the xsi and rallye boxs army that common these days for being up for sale and when they are they sent cheap, there's an s1 rallye box for sale on rallye register ATM that only went up yesterday, and that's £250 quid and I suspect it's most likely not even had a rebuild, then you consider say a 16v box which will have less mileage comes up for about 100ish quid, so if you find and xsi or rallye box even with a high ish mileage your looking at 150 and upwards still cause it's such a wanted box

I would suggest using a 16v gearbox, it's the best compramise tbh if you use your car alot that is, it's a big improvement over the vtr box, they arnt too badly priced and there's alot of them about, and that will still be a nice box to drive as a daily because with the shorter boxs you sit at higher rpm doing less speed

So my xsi box on my 8v I'd sit at 4k rpm doin just 70mph, but my s2 rallye box now sits at 80mph doin 4k rpm, but when I had a 16v box fitted, it was about 85mph I think, so you see the differences, but compared to a vtr box it's quite a nice improvement, do you see where I'm coming from
Though, it's not always about speed and who's quicker, if it's a 2nd car then fair enough fit an s1 box or xsi box, but if it's a daily maybe be a bit more sensible it's up to you though some people drive with an s1 box daily and like it, I was 50:50 on my xsi box tbh, but thts just my opinion, if you would rather spend the extra then go for it you won't be dissapointe with the acceleration improvement

    Hope that helps
