Big problem

    was driving to work and all of a sudden bang and theres a load tapping noise coming from the engine, i had a look and when you rev the engine up smoke comes out from some where (couldnt see much in the dark) but their was unburnt pertrol in it to, now a guy that looked at it with me thats a mechanic said that its either head gasket or injector seals, has anyone else had this problem? don't think its head gasket as the car doesnt over heat, had to drive it home and its lost a hell of a load of power, any help would be greatful

    Best to have a good look in the morning when there is light and see if there is anything untoward with engine. Its a good idea to check all fluid levels and look for anything loose!

    Sudden bangs, loud tapping noises, unburnt petrol, lack of power - sounds like throttle body related to me. Check all the pipes, tubes and seals first, make sure the air box is on properly.. If it was injectors it would be misfiring at least. Head gasket wouldn't make it tappet'y.

    tapping? last time a car went bang and tapped, it was big ends for me

    just had a look and it looks like its the injectors as when you push on them the bangin stops, and one of the injectors looks more clean as the fuels leaking past it if you get me drift
