Hello everyone.
I recently bought a 1997 1.5D Saxo with 120000Km on the clock, and it's in very very good condition. I wasn't expecting any kind of problems with the car, whatsoever, in the next year at least. However, here's what happened:
- when I bought the car, the fuel was low, and we were trying to start it up bit it wouldn't. We got some fuel (from Repsol, the normal kind, 1.12 a liter) and put it in. The car started well and it worked perfectly, as expected, even when still cold.
- the next day, I needed to make a 100Km trip so I got into the car, started it up, no problem, and went to get some more fuel. This time I bought the cheap kind, from Jumbo, about 1,06. I wasn't planning on using that kind of fuel, but the station was a hand, so I went for it. When I got out of the station, the car was already warm. I did the trip no problems.
- the next couple of days, I started noticing the car, while cold (as in it didn't happen when it was warm), having an irregular acceleration. I would put the pet at a given level and it wouldn't accelerate progressively, as expected, and would suddenly start accelerating a bit more, just for a moment, or even cutting out a bit. If I drove a few kilometers, the symptoms would go away. I kind of got scared with this, but I didn't do anything about it, as my dad didn't think it was a big thing.
- now, today, I started the car this morning, no problem, as always, but when I approached the first traffic lights, the car cut off and wouldn't start. It just wouldn't. If I kept the ignition on for about 5 or so seconds, it would try to start just a bit, and sometimes it would even go as high as 2k revs, but it would simply cut off the next moment. As if it didn't have fuel in. It did though (although not much). So I popped the hood, in hopes I could work some miracle, and I tried the manual fuel pump. I turned the key, the car started right away, but it cut off again in a second. I did it three times and the third time it stuck, and it kept running the whole morning. Granted, of course, I went and filled the engine with proper fuel again (the 1,12 kind). I was hoping it would all have been because of the crap Jumbo fuel.
- I stopped the car at 10:30am. I went back and it started properly at 12:30pm and it kept idling well for a couple minutes.
- at the end of the afternoon, at 5:30pm, I went home in the car. Started up just fine, but I stalled it in a ramp (the clutch is awfully touchy, I seriously need to tweak it) and it took three attempts to start again... For some reason. Then for a couple of minutes or something I would experience the irregular accelerations from before, but it stopped quickly, and it made the way back home no problem.
So, my question is: can somebody tell what's wrong with the car? Is it the fuel? Is it the ECU? Fuel pump? The fuel itself? The engine itself?! The air filter? The fuel filter? What?
I'm hoping tomorrow it won't have any problems, but as long as I can keep it running, as soon as it gets warms, it runs flawlessly.
Thanks a lot in advance for the help!
