Do I need to apply some sort of glue or thread seal when refitting the caliper bolts?

As title says is this absolutely necessary or just recommended?

Obviously I will be doing the bolts up to the specified torque setting.

its personal choice really. i did my apprenticeship with ford motorsport and we had to thread lock everything. for the price it costs for a large bottle £8 from halfords its worth getting into the habbit of using it on everything just stops bolts and nuts from vibrating loose. as with breaks never do them to manufauturers torque setting u do them as tight as possible all the time every time.

Thanks mate. Anyone else got anything to add?

I never do, never had any issues.
Can thread lock them if you want, its cheap as a mo fo to buy.

A good trick people in my family do is a bit of nail polish on the end of the thread.

i used that thread ock stuff but only beacuseit was there its fine to do without!

    Don't need to.

Just do them, and I quote, 'fucking tight'

    your fucking stupid mate....

but anyway thread lock isn't required, but i tend to do it these days as one of my caliper bolts did fall out! so its just nice to know

The thread lock is pretty much a 'just in case' method because of the vibration and heat that can be encountered, it definately doesn't hurt though...

ive always been told to use a very small emulsion paint opposed to thread lock as it does the same thing but will come undone although if you dont use masses of thread lock should be fine dont be using any glue though hahaa

Thread lock'll come undone, it's full of lubricants, and it'll cope with a little oil and muck and still stick, paint won't!

As said, thread lock will come undone. It's stud lock which pretty much glues stuff in place.

And who's the idiot that thread locks everything and overtightens bolts? Overtightening a bolt can be just as bad as undertightening one.
