Think clutch maybe going?

shit with cars but if the clutch is really high does that mean it needs a new one? When i say high, i mean literally, if im going down the street at say 40 and i press the clutch down about an inch, then you can hear the car revving higher as if its not in gear kinda thing? Don' know how to explain it really, im useless lol. But also when i press the clutch i can hear like a hissing sound? When i first heard it i thought it was my power steering but its when i press the clutch down, its like a hissing noise

easy way of telling mate, try to pull off in 3rd gear:

If the car stalls right away the clutch is ok

If the car revs up, then down slowly to stall, your clutch is quite worn

If it is that badly worn then yes you will need it replaced.

it involves taking the gearbox off, and would take a normal garage around 2 1/2-3 hours to do

right ok, well ma dads good with that stuff, so he might be able to tell and do it if so. But i thought id check on here first as hes at work at the moment

id say by your description that your clutch is biting right at the top of the pedal, which would lean towards it start to wear, or getting towards the end of its life, as it were

Thanks for your posts mate. you know a rough price of getting it fixed at a garage?

all depends on the garages labour rate mate, lucky its not a difficult job, with the price of a clutch kity and labour id say a rough ballpark figure of around £200 ish

    *kit not kity lol

Mines similar with the hissing but not the high bite, but its definately a clutch job! £200 is a fair price for a saxo as unlike some cars getting to the clutch itself can take a good few hours e.g mondeos. If youve done a mondeo clutch before you will understand this well!

Put it in 5th gear, lowish speed, floor it, does it slip? it being high could just mean the cable, needs adjusting or the auto adjuster if nakerd?

well sometimes it slips a bit when i aint even got my foot on the clutch. So i'm presuming its definately a new clutch job.

    Maybe try adjusting the cable

I tried a couple times, if i slipped the clutch a bit, then it set off in 3rd fine, but if i let go of the clutch quicker then it stalled which is usually the case? So maybe it is the cable that needs adjusting?
