Is a new drivebelt/alternator belt meant to squeak at first?

   Right ive fitted a new alternator belt and ive been outside adjusting it for like the last hour and I just cant seem to make it stop squeaking?
   
   Tried it at both ends of the scale loose and tight and its still squeaking.
   
   Ive read about alternator pulley bearings going but mine seems to spin fine by hand with no play in the mechanism and the whole alternator its self is in very good aesthetic condition.
   
   So have I just got to drive it a few miles or something coz I havent actually taken it off axel stands yet

   Tried it pretty loose as well
   
   do betls squeak when theyre too tight as well as too losoe?

   mine sqeeked for about 3weeks then stopped after that
