Best type of tool for removing a MK2 oil filter case?

Right well I stuck a socket on the top last year and all I ended up doin was snapping bits of the plastic nut off meaning I had to buy a new cover!

So this time Im gonna use a a rubber strap wrench or chain wrench or some of those huge plier/tonges style thingys.

In your experiences, which one would I be best off going and buying before I waste my money on a crap wrench - the chain wrench recieved alot of bad reviews on halfords site!

    Cheers

I have the pliers, and they're great. But they're for removing canister type filters.

The mk2 housing is being overtightened if you are damaging it upon removal. Hand tight is sufficient. Or hand tight and half a turn if you're really paranoid.

It's only an o-ring, overtighten them and they get damaged and don't seal properly, which usually results in people doing them up even tighter to try and stop them leaking and then they seize up.

We get it with instruments in work all the time, people doing them up as tight as possible then opening them 6 months down the line to see they're full of water.
