Urgent help..

  1. #1
Fearing the worst at the moment.

Fan didn't work, replaced the Thermostat and Fan Switch. Car is overheating like a bitch. Im fearing the worst, headgasket, someone help me out please!
  2. #2
have u checked the obvious water levels , oil , mayo in cap?
  3. #3
Water levels are fine, oil is good, and no mayo in the cap, but the car overheats badly since the fan stopped working. Also there was quite a bit of Brown shit in the Radiator.

tried the fan fuses? why not put it on a switch for now?

It don't seem to work that well mate, unless its the wire im using is shit? Seems to spin alot slower than when it works off the car sensors. Would the wires affect how fast it spins?

    Anyone?

I had the same thing mate, i checked everything; thermostat, fan switch, temp sensor and if the headgasket had gone -which it hadnt! I had to bleed the cooling system which seems to have resolved the problem for me!!

Bleeded it enough times now, still no signs of the fan wanting to kick in, Thermostat changed, Fan Switch changed, which temp sensor are you talking about?
  9. #9
the temp gauge sensor, im pretty sure its green and connected just below to the right of the stat, do a google search on "saxo temp gauge sensor" theres loads of threads and fixes on there, it could be that especially when youve replaced everything!

But the tempreture gauge inside the car is working? or have I missed a point? .. Just the fan ain't even bothering to come on
  11. #11
MMMMMMMMM, I SUPPOSE IF THE GAUGE IS WORKING THEN MAYBE THE TEMP SENSOR IS NOT TELLING THE FAN TO KICK IN....?? Sorry bout caps lol
  12. #12
Would you know about if I take the Temp Sensor out, will all the coolant pour out again and me having the bleed the system? Getting bored of bleeding cars now lol
  13. #13
lol me feckin too, nah the coolant wont come out mate unless the rad hose if off! ill do a google search now for ya and see what i can find, im at work bored so itll give me something to do instead of speaking to people who are broken down!
  14. #14
Apparently the ecu also controls the fan and temp sensor - so it might be wise resetting it, u do this by disconnecting the batt and leaving it for at least 30 mins - see if that works but ill keep searching
  15. #15
Ahh you legend mate You work at AA right? I will be on the phone to you tomorrow at about 3pm lol

Thank you for your help buddy appreciate it
  16. #16
Also theres a sensor on the right hand side of the rad at the top which could be broken - best way to test this is try bridging the fan wire directly to the batt and see if it works-if it does then more than likely the rad sensor is knackered, but apparently with this sensor-when you take it out coolant does come out so ud neeb to bleed it again

Thats the one I have changed, its also called a Fan Switch right?
  18. #18
yup, only other thing could be the fan relay
  19. #19
Where would I find that? On the fan housing itself?
  20. #20
it will depend on the set up of the cooling circuit. Some have the relay directly opposite the fan itself in a self contained box. Others have the relay in the passenger fuse box compartment. Also mate id check the fuse - its the F3 or F5 one in the engine bay compartment (top right in black box near top of suspension) OR the fan unit motor - ill simplify>>>>

    1) Fan switch - top right of rad should be blue
    2) Temp sensor - green next to thermostat
    3) Fan motor - fan unit directly behind fan
    4) fan fuse - either in fuse box under glove compartment or in engine bay
    5) reset ecu

Most of the posts on the net regarding the fan are these faults i suppose its a matter of trial and error lol - yea i work for them, its great I havent took a call for 2 hours! if youve got a policy mate get a patrol to come and sort it!!!
  21. #21
Might as well bite the bullet and call out a patrol tomorrow afternoon, don't want to piss them off and calling them up this late, quite cold outside as well. I will check who my Breakdown cover is with, Its with my insurance so Admiral/Bell must use either AA or RAC?
  22. #22
sod em get em out now lol, mmm admiral is through call assist mate

    How come?

If its due to call out times then I know what you mean, If you can see previous recoveries on your screen, you may see one on the 18th December for a Freelander (N30EJL), took the AA 5 hours to come out! Me and my friends were freezing next to a busy bypass on a hill in the snow! lol
  26. #26
lol that sounds about right! I cant find it but yea the times of arrival early morn and night are normally quicker!

Legend! My mum is saying that AA won't come out to do my car, even though she (the person) is covered, they will only do the Landrover? is she right?
  28. #28
They will attend your car mate but you mom or any other members on the policy would have to be there when the patrol arrives
