VTS cutting out on motorway(!)/engine management light coming on

  1. #1
    Hi there, newbie here
been having a bit of a mare on the motorway tonight.......my car keeps trying to cut out unless I keep the revs up/foot on the accelerator the whole time! the engine management light has been flashing up randomly then going off as well.

it seems fine around town, and idles with no problem too. it just seems to be on the motorway when I'm slowing down or just cruising without thrashing it......have got a hunch its some kind of air/fuel problem...

    any ideas?

get a diagnositc test on it

    sounds like a lambda fault

cheers, could potentially work out cheaper than guessing and randomly changing bits n pieces I suppose

    best get it tested

still not got it tested but was just wondering......would a faulty coil pack cause it to hesitate on acceleration and also bring up the engine management light? thinking it could be a blocked injector as well.....

Solution to my problem! (if anyone cares lol) took my coil pack out, gave it a good clean up with WD40, also took the air filter housing out so I could gain access to more of the engine bay then cleaned every electrical plug I could see with WD40.
The coil pack was also a little loose on top of the plugs as well so made sure I tightened it properly when I refitted it (probably the main cause of the problem anyway!)
Took it for a good thrash for a few miles and the car has been responding better than it has since I had it (I did give it a full service as well tho mind!), and no engine management light coming on either

hope this helps anyone with a similar problem

probably condensation in the coilpack due to the freaky hot/cold days we're currently getting
